Day 07 - Exploring Tröllaskagi peninsula and Skagafjordur
Breakfast around 7am, very busy. We leave around 8am and drive to Reykjafoss, short walk, beautiful! There is a small natural hot tub where lots of people sit to relax. We don’t. Then drive to Vidimiri, beautiful little church 'Víðimýrarkirkja'. Take some pictures and then drive to Glaumbaer farm. We walk around, take pictures but don’t go to the museum, busy day. Then drive to Ketubjorgfoss, nobody seems to know this as we are all alone the whole time. Beautiful scenery. Then drive to Hofsós, short walk around the old houses and we drive up to a beautiful lighthouse 'Sauðanesviti' and then to Siglufjördur.
We have to drive through the 'Strákagöng tunnel'. The Strákagöng tunnel is one of the oldest in Iceland. It is located on road 76 and is 800 meters long. Opened in 1967, this is a one-lane tunnel with passing places. When a car is coming from the opposite direction (watch our video below), you have to find a bay and wait there for the car to pass you. Such events trigger a faster heart rate and pressure spikes (watch the video below)...
Once in Siglufjördur we walk around this beautiful little town. Then we drive through Dalvik and back to Akureyri. The whole day we saw beautiful sceneries. We get a signal in the car during the day saying low 'Urea' so we call Europcar and apparently 'Adbleu' should be added. So tomorrow first stop will be Europcar in Akureyri. We get to the hotel and our room is not cleaned, apparently we had the 'do not disturb' sign on the door but we are surprised because we only had it on our door from 7-8am during breakfast which means they don’t check again later. But, we do get new towels. Apparently all the red traffic lights in Akureyri are in the shape of a heart (see the picture yesterday)!
