Day 06 - Whale watching from Húsavik

Breakfast around 7am then drive to Husavik for whale watching boat tour we booked in advance. Nice drive, beaytiful scenery and the sun is shining!
Arrival around 10.30am in Husavik, go to the ticket office to check in. Then walk around in beautiful Husavik. Small and early lunch at Gamli Baukur restaurant.
Around 1pm we board on the boat Mattfari. We are wearing 5 layers of clothes because of wind on the sea and get a survival suit to wear over it as there is wind coming up. We sail off under a beautiful sun, then about an hour later we start seeing humpback whales… lots of them and very close, so impressive! We see some puffins too on the water. Apparently it is unusual to see so many whales together. It is such nice weather that we all start taking of our survival suits… too hot! Then we get hot chocolate offered on the boat and enjoy the trip back. Round 4.30pm we are back in Husavik and drive back to our hotel in Akureyri where we arrive at 6pm. We asked for a table in the hotel’s restaurant and it is still possible around 7pm. We both take the catch of the day, cusk with tomatoes, basil, bacon and gnocchi, excellent! Then a bit relaxing in the lounge.
