Day 05 - Port aux Basques, Newfoundland
Because of the small bed at the B&B we both slept very badly. Also the horn of the ferry, which is blown about 15 minutes before departure (10.45pm) made us jump out of our beds.
Just before 7am we get up and see the ferry coming up towards the harbour. There is some mist above the sea but the weather looks nice.
We walk to the hotel St Christopher (which was fully booked) which is just a bit further down the street. We have nice buttermilk pancakes! We ask them if they can make us some lunch to go and they provide us with great and huge sandwiches which we take with us for our lunch later on.
We are being warned for moose because it is full of them here. A trucker tells us that last night he saw 2 of them and one was walking on the highway just in front of his truck. These guys are used to this here, they don’t even slow down. All trucks have huge bull bars on the front.
We drive upwards and follow our planning. It is a very nice route. The only wildlife we get to see is a lost squirrel crossing the road….
Around 6pm we are back at the B&B and leave the south shore. That will be for the next time.
We have a nice shower and go back to St Christopher’s for dinner and have a nice halibut.
Around 8.30pm we are back at the B&B and go to sleep nicely cuddled next to each other in this small bed.
Daytrip approx. 502 km
