Day 6 - Driving to Rapid City, South Dakota via Scotts Bluff National Monument
Luckily we slept very well last night, the change of the room was a great idea.
We have our last breakfast at the Egg and I and go to Safeway's to get some fuel.
The drive to Rapid City is long. After driving one and a half hour we reach Scotts Bluff National Monument where we do not have to pay thanks to our park pass. We enter the monument and go for a short walk. It's very nice here.
Further on we drive and see lots of plains, plains and more plains and some pronghorns and then again a kind of rock formation followed by ... plains. It is quite a boring and tiresome drive. The good thing is that almost the entire drive there is hardly any traffic. From Wyoming through Nebraska to South Dakota we drive about 5 and a half hours.
Finally we reach Rapid City and check in at our hotel which opened only 2 years ago. Very modern and beautiful rooms. We ask for a quiet room but we immediately return to the front desk and ask to change as our room is just across the ice machine which, from a previous experience, is a bad thing because of the noise it makes. No problem and we get another great room. We take a refreshing shower and in the meantime Patrick goes to the bar and order a bottle of Zinfandel and two glasses to enjoy it in our room. Very nice!
Later on we go back to the bar which is also the hotel's restaurant and have bizon burgers. Very tasty but a bit spicy. We venture ourselves to the cheesecake lolypop but this was not so good as expected...
We go back to our rooms and enjoy a well deserved sleep.
Tomorrow we will finally see the long expected Badlands!
Daytrip approx. 509 km
