Day 10 - From Monument Valley to Moab, Utah and Goosenecks SP, Natural Bridges NM, Newspaper Rock SHP and The Needles Overlook
We have an early breakfast at 6.30am, because of the change of time zone we have to put our watches one hour forward and it will be a long but beautiful day.
Around 8.30am we pass the “Mexican Hat” where a bit further we leave our route to drive to the “Goosenecks State Park”. Impressive what nature can do! The “San Juan River” is a nicely far eroded meandering river which makes you quiet.
We drive back and arrive at a hairpin road towards a higher plateau (of 2000m) where we have a nice view of the “Valley of the Gods”. In front of us there is a truck giving everything it can, so we decide to give him the time to reach the top before we leave. Imagine he does not make it and starts rolling backwards… you do not want to be behind him in these hairpin curves!
After this we leave our route again and drive to “Muley Point Overlook”. Again recommendable! Then we continue our drive to “Natural Bridges National Monument” and make some short hikes. This route and the ones of the following days we already did in 2008, but we do not mind and this way LuSo can also enjoy these beautiful places. Around 1.30pm we make a stop and have a picnic somewhere near some cows.
Further we leave our route again, twice. First to drive to “Newspaper Rock State Historic Park” and a second time to enjoy the “Needles Overlook” (part of Canyonlands National Park). There is a lot of wind here but it is breathtaking.
We continue our drive to Moab and stay at the same hotel as we did two years ago and have, just as two years ago, our dinner at the “Moab Brewery” as we were looking forward to it and again we enjoyed their great food.
Daytrip approx. 447 km
